Creating "plein air paintings" sometimes are a challenge. Why? Because "LIFE" does not stand still while the artist is TRYING to figure out what to paint, and how to put it on the canvas! Sunsets are a great example of this...they happen for moments, in each step of the setting sun...not merely the sky, but the clouds that embrace her! Then, also, to get the feeling of translucency in the sky, and the depth of color in the land...all happening within the values of pure "100% dark" to "1 or 2% light"...even most cameras cannot do this on the spot!!
